CSFRVB Engage in Nation-Building

By: Central Sampaloc Fire | August 26, 2011

Fire and rescue volunteers trade fire hoses and fire suits for shovels and palettes as they build a schoolhouse for the students of the National Highschool of Cabiao.

On May 13-15, 2011, the Central Sampaloc Fire and Rescue Volunteers joined Gawad Kalinga -Ateneo and the National High School of Cabiao as they shared their time, energy and spirit with our fellow Filipinos in need. In the spirit of nation-building, the Central Sampaloc Fire and Rescue Volunteers worked hand in hand with students from the Ateneo de Manila University, National High School of Nueva Ecija , and the GK Nueva Ecija Kapitbahayan in building a new school house for the National High School of Nueva Ecija.

“It was awesome, we learned the importance of having less for self, more for others and enough for all,” shared Rex Garcia, Fire Chief of the Central Sampaloc Fire and Rescue Volunteers. It was the first time for the CSFRV to join a Gawad Kalinga build.

Aside from building the schoolhouse, the CSFRV also enjoyed team-building activities with their respective teams. The CSFRV delegates were assigned to different teams in order to get to know other participants better. One of the highlights of the event was when the CSFRV gave the crowd a shower from their fire truck. Participants definitely enjoyed this sweet surprise after a long day of hard work.

Through the partnership of Ateneo de Manila University, the local government of Cabiao, the Department of Education in the district of Nueva Ecija and Gawad Kalinga-Nueva Ecija, the students of National High School of Cabiao will be provided with a new schoolhouse. The construction of the structure started last May, and will be followed by the implementation of Child and Youth Development and Health programs.

The Central Sampaloc Fire and Rescue Volunteers aim to take part in building the nation not only by providing help during fires and disastrous situations, but also thru joining outreach activities. This new partnership with Gawad Kalinga will surely bring in more opportunities to serve God and our country. (Photo Credits: John Lenon)
